To lay out the composition on Tribute I used both Stabillo pencils and paintbrush. The former for precision and details, the latter to quickly block in large areas of color. The layout and underpainting processes were merged, partly because the canvas was so large and partly due to the intracacy of the designs. It tooktwo and ahalf months to finalize the composition and have enough paint on the car to continue to the lining step. Even then, some revisions would be made going forward.
